Ms. Sinéad Norris is the HSCL Officer in Bridgetown College. The underlying policy of the scheme is one that seeks to promote partnership between parents and teachers. The purpose of this partnership is to enhance pupils’ learning opportunities and to promote their retention in the education system. In addition, the HSCL Scheme places great emphasis on collaboration with the local community. Ms. Norris can be contacted on (086) 0755293 or (053) 9135257.
The home school Community Liaison (HSCL) Scheme has been operating in Bridgetown College since 2007 and it was designed to be a preventative structure in promoting full attendance to Leaving Cert or equivalent level. It provides a framework for co-operation between home, school and the community
The HSCL teacher facilitates parental involvement in their child’s education while they attend Bridgetown College through work in a variety of key areas. These include: Home Visitation, involvement in Local Community and Cluster Meetings, involvement in Policy Formation and the development of literacy and numeracy initiatives. The one Book, One Community project, Maths Revision classes.
The HSCL teacher also offers courses and classes to parents to help them in their personal development and so that they are able to help and encourage their child to learn and participate fully in school.
An important aspect of the work of the HSCL is the networking and integration with local statutory and voluntary agencies, especially those that impinge directly on the families with children attending Bridgetown College. The HSCL Scheme integrates and liaises with other existing structures of parental; support and contact in the school including close liaison with management, staff and key care personnel
The College has always had a welcoming policy around parental involvement in the college and this is demonstrated through high attendance at Parent Teacher meetings, Awards Day Celebrations, Information Afternoons for parents and other meetings organised to inform and support parents.
Courses and Programmes offered to parents in the past include Art Classes, a Cook It Course, Photography Course, The Book Club, Christmas and Easter Decoration Class.
Other courses have been organised through the WWETB for parents of Bridgetown College these include ESOL classes, Woodcarving classes, A Social Skills course, a First Aid course and a computer course to name a few.
