Bridgetown College are South Leinster Senior hurling champions.
After a long wait and a lot of hard graft, our senior hurlers won the title this week. This group of players have been knocking at the door since first year and yesterday all their hard work paid off.
They beat their local rivals Wexford CBS in a thrilling final with a scoreline of 3:12 to 4:07. After a nervous start the players settled down and played really well in the first half and dominated most of the play. They had built up a good lead of 2:08 to 1:04 at the half time interval. In the second half, Wexford CBS came out strong and pulled their score back to within just one point with some fine hurling. But Bridgetown recovered, and with a very good free from Rees Broaders and a fantastic goal from Darragh Furlong, Bridgetown pulled away again. CBS fought back to within two points again, but in the end the fight and heart displayed by the Bridgetown lads proved too strong and they went on to secure a magnificent victory.
The mentors were thrilled with the character shown by the players and also with the huge support from parents and fellow students. They really helped the boys and their support was very much appreciated. They will now play Rathdowney CS in Leinster semi-final. Well done to the entire team.
